PRODUCT INFORMATION

Product Details.

The Magnetic Field Indicator (Burmah-Castol Type) is a compact and practical inspection accessory designed for Magnetic Particle Testing (MT/MPI). It helps NDT personnel make a quick visual assessment of magnetic field conditions generated during the magnetization of ferromagnetic components.

During an MPI inspection, proper magnetization is essential for producing reliable magnetic particle indications. The indicator responds to the magnetic field applied to the test component, providing a visual indication that can help the inspector assess the presence, direction, and relative adequacy of the magnetic field.

The Magnetic Field Indicator is particularly useful with magnetic yokes, coils, and other magnetizing equipment. Its compact design makes it convenient for use in NDT workshops, manufacturing facilities, fabrication sites, maintenance operations, and field inspection environments.

Key Features

  • Designed for Magnetic Particle Testing (MPI/MT)
  • Quick visual indication of magnetic field conditions
  • Helps assess magnetic field direction
  • Useful for relative magnetization checks
  • Compact and portable design
  • No external power required for basic visual indication
  • Suitable for field and workshop inspection
  • Useful as an MPI inspection accessory

Applications

  • Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI)
  • Magnetic field verification
  • Magnetization direction checking
  • Magnetic yoke inspection
  • Coil magnetization checks
  • Weld inspection
  • Ferromagnetic component testing
  • NDT quality-control applications
  • Field and workshop inspections
  • NDT training and demonstration

How It Works

The indicator is positioned on or near the magnetized test surface while the magnetic field is applied. Its internal indicating element responds to the magnetic flux, producing a visible indication. The inspector can use this response to evaluate the presence and relative direction of the magnetic field and determine whether the magnetization setup requires adjustment.

Advantages

  • Quick visual indication
  • Simple operation
  • Compact and portable
  • No battery required for the indicator
  • Useful during MPI setup
  • Helps verify magnetization conditions
  • Suitable for field inspection work

Limitations

  • Primarily provides a qualitative or comparative indication
  • Does not provide a direct numerical magnetic-field measurement in Gauss
  • Should not be treated as a substitute for a calibrated Gauss Meter where quantitative measurement is required
  • Proper positioning and inspection technique are important for meaningful results
